Tignes is a modern resort, located in the Northern Alps of the Savoie Department, nestled in a large hollow above the newly formed lake Chevril.
Tignes was fully established as a leading ski resort by the 1970s. See the History of Tignes. Being built in the seventies style, some say it is rather too concrete than traditional. This might be true but it is certainly not unattractive and any future building is strictly controlled to reflect the Savoyard style.
