Travelling to Tignes

Getting to Tignes is relatively easy and by most methods from the UK you should allow a day to travel there and get settled in. Access to Tignes from the UK is very similar to that of most other European resorts. It is driveable in one day but driver changes are advisable and in France they recommend 2 hour sessions and frequent stops at their excellent motorway service stations or rest / picnique areas.
Other choices available are by flying, from any of the main UK airports to either Lyon, Geneva, Grenoble or Chambery or by train via the Euro Tunnel, via Paris to Bourg St Maurice. We will cover these further on.

Free Shuttle Bus Service

Once you reach the resort travelling within it is very easy as there is a very efficient system of buses known as the “Navette”. These run free of charge from Tignes Les Boisse, down by the dam to Tignes Le Lac every 30 minutes from 8:45am to 6:45pm as well as from Le Lac via Le Lavachet to Val Claret, starting hourly from 6.30am to 8:30am and then from 8:30 to 6:30 every 30 minutes and then again hourly from 8:30pm to Midnight. There is also a chargeable bus service between Tignes Le Boisse and Val D’Isere but be warned if you get stuck over there with your skis after 5;30pm you will end up catching a taxi back!
